Failure of belt:

The wear of the belt is related to many factors, such as dust or dirty operating conditions, wear or rough belt wheels, variable load, insufficient tension, dislocation of belt wheels, belt shake, especially the high temperature environment of the engine, which will affect the wear size of the belt and reduce the performance.

During regular maintenance, check whether the v-belt has the following general failure modes:

  • The sides are shiny or smooth

Friction caused by skidding of a slack belt in a pulley will make both sides of the belt smooth and shiny. The smooth surface will reduce the friction coefficient of the belt and make it more slippery.


The crack

All belts run on the small belt wheel for a period of time and all of them will produce cracks. The reason is that the rubber at the bottom is constantly compressed, resulting in large stress reaching the crack point.

The fall of the strap is caused by the whole piece falling off as the crack deepens to the position of the tension line.

The layering of the belts may be caused by oil leakage from the engine. The oil will weaken the adhesion force of the rubber compounds, leading to the decrease of the adhesion force between the rubber, the wire rope and the top of the canvas.

The serrated or pit on the side of the belt is caused by the presence of foreign material such as gravel or coarse surface of the belt pulley. Regular cleaning of the drive parts helps prevent this problem.

Large foreign bodies in the belt pulley may cut into the drive belt and cause the tension cable to break. It may also be that the belt is subjected to external force's crowing during the installation.
